About Us

Great things are growing in Hanover!

It all started with a Community Impact Project requirement for the 2025 Virginia Rural Leadership Institute. And it has grown into a much larger collaborative project. A Planning Team was put into place with team members representing the farms, and resource partners instrumental for this vision.

Conversations were had with many local farmers, budgets drafted and resources explored along with best practices collected from 4 other counties. One of the first decisions made was when to hold the first tour. Through surveys, the consensus was to aim for the Fall of 2026 with a goal of 10 to 12 farms.

The vision for the Fields & Farms Tour is to showcase the diversity of local farms and the budding agritourism industry by connecting the community to the fields, the farmers, and the stories that shape Hanover’s identity and economy.

This firsttime event already has strong momentum, with 11 farms committed to opening their gates. Visitors will experience the remarkable variety of Hanover agriculture — from Highland cows, alpacas,  thoroughbred horses, to thriving horticulture operations of flowers, plants and classic staples like cornfields. With plans to grow year after year, the Fields & Farms Tour is designed to become a signature celebration of Hanover’s agricultural heritage and growing agritourism.

Through hands-on experiences and engaging education, this annual event gives visitors a closer look at Hanover agriculture and a greater understanding of the important role it plays in the county’s economy, culture, and quality of life.

Keep checking back as we add the schedule of the various activities at each farm, the map, and various choices of farm adventures and a call for volunteers.  And don’t forget to sign up to be in the know!

We hope you are excited as we are for October 10th!
