FAQs
What is the Fields & Farms Tour?
It is a free, self-guided one day tour that gives visitors the opportunity to explore participating farms across Hanover County, meet the people behind them, and experience the diversity of local agriculture. For 2026, it is scheduled for October 10 from 10 am to 3 pm.
Do I need a ticket or reservation to attend?
Majority of the farm activities do not require a ticket or reservations. It will be noted on their schedule activities if a reservation is required for a specific activity.
How does the self-guided tour work?
You select the farms that you want to visit. There will be several suggested routes aka adventures with various themes to guide you that will be posted shortly on this site. You can travel between stops at your own pace. With the number of farms and the travel time between the East and West sides of the County, we suggest visiting between 3 to 4 farms.
How do I decide which farms to visit?
Each stop offers something different—from Highland cows, alpacas, horses, berries and flowers to horticulture, research, and other hands-on agricultural experiences. The experience is meant to be customized to your interests. View the suggested adventures, read the farm profiles, and review the map (coming soon) and start determining what experiences you like to have on October 10th.
Is the tour family-friendly?
Yes, while the activities and experiences vary by farm, some farms have curated more family friendly activities. Each farm profile will indicate the family friendly activities. Remember these are working farms and children should remain supervised at all times.
Are pets allowed?
It depends on each farm. Each farm profile will indicate if pets are allowed. If pets are allowed, they must be leased at all times and kindly remove any pet waste appropriately.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, water, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure. You may encounter gravel, grass, uneven ground, mud, and, of course, a little farm dirt.
What happens if it rains?
The tour is rain or shine. Some farms may alter activities depending on weather. Please visit our Facebook page, Hanover Fields & Farms Tour, and sign up for our newsletter for all updates.
