What began as a peaceful rural home for the Cosby family grew into an extraordinary horticultural treasure. Over more than 40 years, siblings Elizabeth, Madeline, and Reverend Monsignor Roy Cosby carefully cultivated the 79-acre property, creating a remarkable collection of more than 2,000 varieties of azaleas, 300 varieties of rhododendrons, ornamental plants, farmland, and Virginia woodlands.
Today, the property is known as the Lewis Ginter Nature Preserve. Protected through a conservation easement, the land reflects a lasting commitment to stewardship, preservation, and the belief that a place lovingly cared for today can continue to inspire and benefit generations to come.
